Medical Consultant Dr. Oregon Hunter

Dr. Oregon K. Hunter, MD, is a medical doctor licensed in California with prior practice experience in Florida and Hawaii. With decades of expertise, Dr. Hunter plays a vital role in helping attorneys uncover inaccuracies and misrepresentations in defense medical expert reports by meticulously evaluating the science and facts presented.

Throughout his career, Dr. Hunter has delivered hundreds of national and international presentations, demonstrating the proper way defense experts should conduct physical exams. He has even conducted live physical exams on audience members to illustrate correct procedures. After reviewing 300 cases involving defense exam videos and corresponding reports, he authored a landmark article based on 20 consecutive cases, concluding that none of the reports accurately reflected the actual examinations — even when doctors knew they were being recorded.

Dr. Hunter’s extensive qualifications and accomplishments include:

  • Co-authoring the Florida Impairment Guide and other publications.
  • Directing a brain injury program in Hawaii and treating traumatic brain injuries (TBI), complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), and spinal injuries for over 40 years.
  • Serving as president of the Florida Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and having internationally published research.
  • Acting as a medical consultant in notable legal cases, including providing pro bono assistance in high-profile trials.
  • Delivering seminars and presentations worldwide, including in India, Japan, Canada, Cuba, and across the U.S.

Dr. Hunter also holds certifications from the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Academy of Pain Management, in addition to being a former fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and a member of the National Board of Medical Examiners.

How Dr. Hunter Strengthens Case Strategies

Dr. Hunter’s expertise enhances litigation support in multiple ways:

  1. Exposing Misleading Defense Exams
By reviewing videotapes and audiotapes of defense medical exams, Dr. Hunter analyzes and highlights where opposing experts may have misrepresented facts or findings. His evaluations often take just 2-4 hours and include detailed analyses with footnoted resources that attorneys can use to challenge the defense’s narrative.
  2. Redlining Defense Reports
Dr. Hunter can convert defense expert reports into editable formats and insert comments, exhibits, and medical references to expose flaws. This allows attorneys to clearly see where the defense expert’s conclusions are unsupported.
  3. Deposition Assistance as a Non-Testifying Consultant
Dr. Hunter can attend depositions remotely, providing real-time feedback through instant messaging. He flags inaccuracies in the defense expert’s testimony, researches any medical references on the spot, and sends attorneys relevant materials during the deposition.
  4. Conducting Research on Damages and Causation
When defense experts make blanket statements — such as claiming that low-speed crashes cannot cause disc herniations — Dr. Hunter quickly provides authoritative references to refute such claims during depositions.
  5. Supporting Attorneys During Mediation
Dr. Hunter can remotely attend mediations to explain complex medical issues, strengthening the plaintiff’s position by providing clear, evidence-based arguments.
  6. Participating in Mock Trials
Dr. Hunter can also role-play as defense expert during mock trials, either live or remotely, to help attorneys prepare for trial by anticipating and countering defense strategies.

Dr. Hunter’s ability to swiftly uncover inaccuracies, provide critical insights, and support attorneys with real-time research and expert analysis makes him a powerful asset in challenging defense experts and bolstering injury claims. His unique combination of medical expertise, legal insight, and decades of experience enhances the mission of delivering effective legal representation and achieving justice for injury victims.

Dr. Hunter does not, and will not, practice medicine in connection with this process.
